Life is very simple if you wish it to be. Meher Baba has said to remember him constantly. By chanting “Meher Baba” continuously and by remembering to give everything over to him–whether good or bad–then he will take care of everything. Quite simply done. From my experience of being with Baba it is a journey where you will be challenged to live your whole truth from your heart. And it may appear at times that God is not with you, but when you look back at your hardest times you will realise that it is precisely when you were being carried by him.
On the path that I have followed I have experienced and met many diverse people and beings. But the one thing that I come back to is the love of the highest. Now for myself when I came across the Avatar Meher Baba, or shall I say when he reeled me into his ocean of Love, I knew that I had come home. But come home to what? My life did not become wonderful overnight but in my heart I knew everything was as it should be. There is no greater miracle than love in motion. Love challenges you to the very core of your being; it challenges you to be real with yourself and to be real with others. If we could all come from the space of being real we would truly come from a point of the highest love. We would therefore remember to accept everyone as they are and not as we want them to be. Acceptance first starts with your self.
I finally succumbed to Baba in a period that was completely dark and desolate. The only thing that got me through was chanting ‘Meher Baba’ and trusting that everything was being taken care of. It took me a lot of inner chanting.
Personally I wasn’t interested in Gurus, Masters, or anyone claiming to be the Highest of the High. So when David Cousins told me about Sai Baba, Mother Meera, Amma and Meher Baba, my immediate reaction was dis-interest. Yet I had a strong reaction to these names. And I always challenge myself when I have such a strong response, so I sent out a challenge to the Avatars. So I simply asked them to show themselves to me, and to prove to me who and what they truly are.
So the journey began, and very steadily they began to show themselves to me. I am not someone that takes things at face value. I have to really know it with my heart and being. For example I did not have any books or pictures of Meher Baba, so I asked him to show himself to me, which he did. At the time it was like a child asking for constant confirmation, which he provided. Someone then sent me a picture of him, but did not at all look like how I had envisioned him. To be honest it was a relief. On some level I already knew who he truly was and wanted to doubt, so as not to go down that road of walking with the Highest, even though that was what I strived for. When asked what I thought of the pictures I replied that I saw Baba differently and, low and behold, my impression was an exact image of him when he was younger, and prior to the two car accidents that altered his nose.
So this was the first concrete moment, and there have been many more since.
Walking the path with Meher Baba for me called for the highest surrender. Taught me to let go of all attachments in my life. To live in the world, but not be attached to it. To put another’s happiness before my own, in selfless service, without looking for a reward but purely for the sake of love. To remember that everything is as it should be, no matter how it look’s. Love is the way! Freedom is where I am!
So do not be afraid to ask questions of Meher Baba, since he is constantly talking in your heart. I have been asked by a long-term Baba-lover “How come my connection to Baba is so strong?” My answer was that I felt that just because I did not physically meet Meher Baba in physical form, I was even more blessed. From my heart and soul how could I truly know the ways of Baba and my awakening in him unless it is truly his essence that I connect to? My heart cannot lie.
I believe that you have a choice as to whether you claim the Highest, which for me is Meher Baba, now and always. Meher Baba has reminded me that God is your True Self Within. I believe that the true connection is most easily found within, and that you already know everything. It’s just that you’ve forgotten.
For each individual how you choose to find God may take you down many different paths, but they all lead to the same destination in the end. Chanting “ Meher Baba” is one way. You can also chant “Meera Ma”, “Ma Om”, “Om Sai Ram”, “I am God, I am Light, I am Love” and so on. Whatever works for you, and is true in your heart.
However I invite you, if you so wish, to meet with the Avatar of the Age. For you to invite him into your heart, and to find him as your own true self.
Meher Baba simply means compassionate father.
Meher Baba came into human form to show us that love is the highest way to God within.
Meher Baba chose to be silent for 44 years to remind us that God is within your own heart if you truly listen. He has eternally been speaking the silence of love.
Quite simply to chant Meher Baba will bring you closer to the highest love within your own heart.
